Our MOT Frequently Asked Questions
Our online booking system books you straight into your Autostop service test centre, so if you’re in a hurry, you can book for today – right up until the appointment time.
The test takes 45 minutes, however please allow up to an hour in case any minor repairs are needed. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your appointment (you can bring your car in any time from opening onwards).
Cars (Class 4)
The MOT test is designed to ensure that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards.
You should be aware that the MOT certificate is not a guarantee of the general mechanical condition of your car – you should have your car serviced regularly at Autostop’s Warrington MOT centre to maintain its mechanical condition.
Should your vehicle need a little help to pass the test, you can rest assured that almost most repairs can be carried out on site on the same day. Any repairs and charges will be notified to you upfront, so no nasty surprises!
Many failures we see every day could be prevented by drivers carrying out some simple checks before bringing their vehicle in. Common avoidable faults include light bulbs, tyre condition and pressure, mirrors, wipers and washer Fluid.
If your vehicle is undergoing its first MOT then a V5C vehicle registration certificate (log book) is required, this document is also required if your vehicle has had a change of registration plate since its last MOT. In all other instances no documentation is required.
If your car fails, it must be repaired and retested. You cannot legally drive your car on the road until the repairs have been made and a certificate issued. Most repairs can be carried out onsite at the test centre on the same day, and we will always advise you upfront about any work that needs to be done.
If we are able to repair your car ourselves at the test centre, or off-site by the following day, there is no MOT retest fee. If your car is removed from the test centre and returned to us within 10 working days, the cost for the retest will be free of charge. In all other cases a full test is required and will be charged at the current rate.
If your vehicle fails it’s MOT and you wish to appeal against the decision you should ask the testing station for a VT17 form. If your appeal is successful the fee or part of it will be returned, but you should not have your vehicle repaired before the appeal is considered as any change may affect the outcome of the appeal.
